Fifth Edition of the Exhibition So Close, So Far September 20 – October 2, 2016

From September 20 to October 2 at the National Palace of Culture (third floor) the exhibition So Close, So Far will bring together in a common format Bulgarian artists living and working abroad. The exhibition will present artists whose artistic career has taken them beyond the borders of Bulgaria. For a fifth consecutive year, the event aims at showing works of contemporary Bulgarian artists whose art will enrich the cultural life of the capital and will give them an opportunity to show their artworks to the Bulgarian audience. In 2016 So Close, So Far is organized under the patronage of the President of Bulgaria Mr. Rosen Plevneliev. The opening of the exhibition will take place on September 20, 2016, 18:30h. at the National Palace of Culture, floor 3.

Participants in the exhibition this year are: Atanaska Tassart – USA; Boryana Rossa  USA; Vesselina Zagralova – Austria; Zara Alexandrova – Germany; Iskren Semkov – Switzerland; Kamen Stoyanov – Austria; Kosta Tonev – Austria; Leda Vaneva -  Finland; Lora Dimova – Finland; Nadia Tsakova – UK; Nina Pancheva-Kirkova – UK; Sevda Chkoutova – Austria; Yanko Tihov – UK.

This year for the first time an art residency will be organized as part of the exhibition. For the period of seven days one of the exhibition participants – Nina Pancheva-Kirkova will develop an artwork from copper, the materials for which will be provided by the general sponsor of the exhibition – Aurubis Bulgaria. The piece will be displayed at the exhibition.

Curators of the exhibition are Mila Stareyshinska-Angelova and Nia Tabakova. Co-ordintor of the event is Snezhana Yoveva - Dimitrova.

The NGO So Close, So Far is initiator and organizer of the fifth edition of the exhibition in partnership with State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, Metropolitan Programme for Culture of Sofia Municipality, Association for the Development of Sofia and the National Palace of Culture. General sponsor of the event is Aurubis Bulgaria. With the support of Dabov Specialty Coffee and Creative Center. On September 21 at 10 am at the National Palace of Culture, floor 3, NGO So Close, So Far and Association for the Development of Sofia will organize a discussion: Innovations in the Cultural Management. In the event will participate artists from the exhibition, scholars and experts. The aim of the debate is to activate the international dimension of the cultural environment in Sofia in the context of the challenges and dynamics of the time.
